Windows can bring more than just natural lighting into your home – they can also bring charm and character. In fact, there are a number of diverse window styles out there, each with its own distinctive look, that can help distinguish your home from the rest. If you’ve ever wondered about all the different window types out there, you’re in luck, as in today’s blog, we’ll be exploring all of the most popular window styles! If that sounds interesting, keep reading below for more information!
Single Hung Windows
Perhaps the quintessential window for residential buildings, single hung windows is seen as the standard for homes across the nation, as they are relatively easy to install and budget-friendly in most markets. In addition to their economical value, they can be opened quite easily, allowing for fresh air to come in through a screen.
Double Hung Windows
In a way, the double-hung window is an elevated version of the single-hung window. The difference here is that double-hung windows allow for both the upper and lower sash to move vertically. They can also be easier to clean than single hung windows.
Awning Windows
As the name would suggest, awning windows are known for their ability to, well, create an awning. They are weather-resistant, great for rainy climates, and easy to clean. While they may cost a tad more than the likes of single-hung windows, awning windows still make for a relatively affordable option.
Bay Windows
Common in English and Colonial-style architecture, bay windows are a simple way to add elegant views of your outdoor area, whether it’s the road, your front yard, or your backyard. Bay windows are typically installed in kitchens or living rooms, as they provide much natural lighting and serenity, making them an excellent addition to any home. While they can be visually appealing, bay windows aren’t known for being the most cost-efficient option out there.
Arched Windows
While most window styles are linear and rectangular, arched windows are distinguished for their round features. These windows can easily add an eccentric pop to any home, however, they are certainly not as practical as other rectangular windows, as they cannot be opened or closed. They are somewhat pricier than their single or double-hung counterparts, but not terribly so.
